The South Australian Public Primary Schools Music Festival’s association with Paul began in 2007 when ‘Warri & Yatunka’ featured in our Festival repertoire.
Since then we have included his songs in our children’s choral program every year except one. We commissioned Paul to write a song cycle in 2008 titled ‘Southern Sky’ – a suite of 3 songs, which pay respect to some true histories and beliefs that are deeply connected to the night sky and the knowledge of our Indigenous people.
Most recently, in 2014, he composed ‘Flight’ a 4 song cycle which explores the history, science and passion of flying, again with a strong link to Australian history with one song featuring Nancy Bird Walton.
What a talent!! Paul brings to life, through music and words, the most precious of stories that tell of inspiring people and historic events in Australia’s history. They reflect Paul’s fascination with Australian story and personal achievement.
His writing is accessible to everyone! When commissioned to write a song or songs, his attention to detail and investigation into the topic ensures the content of his songs are based on fact and tell a true story that will both entertain, teach and inspire!
Paul’s choral music is well written and orchestrated for young people to sing and play. The melodies and harmonies are exciting and dynamic, and most importantly will complement the lyrics to bring the most beautiful or dramatic stories to life. He is approachable and flexible with ‘his’ music and is open to change or adaption, to suit the needs of our festival and the young clientele.
Paul relates to both adults and young people with a special kind of ‘musical’ charisma and leaves a wonderful memory, through his music, with people all over Australia.
