One Pure Voice was commissioned by Gondwana Choirs in 2019 for the 30th Anniversary and the National Choral School massed finale, under the direction of Lyn Williams OAM
2019 marked the 20th year of Paul’s involvement with the organisation, (his first commission for Lyn Williams was in 1999 and she was pivotal in shaping Paul’s career as a choral composer). In addition, both Paul’s daughters were in the choir and Paul’s partner Bonnie had co-composed other pieces in the program.
For the work, Paul focused on how the choristers feel year after year as they return to their second home; their home of music. Together in song, breathing together, hearts beating together and mind, body and spirit as one, a choir is life changing for anyone who gives it a go, and Gondwana is one of the great sounds in the world.
This is all possible thanks to Lyn Willlams and founding guest conductor, Mark O’Leary. The chorus is a thank you letter to the director…”And with one pure voice, together in song, we will sing you home to were you belong. And with one pure voice, see what you’ve grown, see what you’ve grown, and we’ll sing you home to where you belong”.
The piece also received a second performance at the Sydney Opera House for the Finale of the Gondwana World Choral Festival in 2019.
One Pure Voice is score for a massed choir of SSAA Treble with SATB. You will need a large choir to achieve the work and we thoroughly recommend this piece to any large festival or event particularly as a concert closer!
During the Covid Pandemic the choir united virtually and made this special version which beings half way through the full work. Thank you!
