Let the Children Sing

Let the Children Sing was commissioned in 2015 by Fiona Clouston of PLC Croydon for the senior chamber choir.

We wanted a piece that was a positive message as we face the challenges of the digital age – a piece that inspired us all to remember the importance of social cohesion through communication and living freely. The piece is a nostalgic journey which reminds us of the importance to run, play, challenge, fear, dream, sing and just ‘be’.

“Sing of beauty, sing of pain, and sing of sunshine, sing of rain. Sing to them the melodies that bring them home again”

Another piece written in collaboration with Bonnie Nilsson, this piece is suited to advanced treble singers from upper primary through to university. It is unaccompanied and splits into 5- 6 parts at times.

There is no recording available as yet, but do enjoy the sample PDF below. Thank you.

Let the children play
Let them run through fields, open the gates
Climb the fences and trees, feel an ocean breeze
Wander a mountain trail, talk to the robin, the lark the quail
Let the children play

Let the children speak
Let them speak their mind, draw in the sand
And dance to the sound of their own songs
Let them make believe the world they wish to see
Let the children speak

Let the children be
Let them imagine all they wish to believe
Let them find themselves wandering fields so wide
Opening gates, climbing fences high to a fortress in a tree
Let the children be

Let the children sing
Sing of beauty, sing of pain, and sing of sunshine, sing of rain
Sing to them the melodies that bring them home again
Let the children sing
